Emyvale is well known for its community spirit. Residents in the area participate
in a wide variety of community activities such as: baseball, bingo, darts, card
tournaments, variety shows, skating, fishing, badminton, and concerts. The
Community Centre is located beside the Roman Catholic Church and across
the Kingston Road from the Westwood Hills Subdivision.
Emyvale also boasts a large pond, Carragher's Pond, which has recently been
dredged and reconfigured to enhance the fish and waterfowl environment.
The pond is used extensively for fishing in summer and skating in winter.
Duck islands were constructed from the silt that was dredged from the bottom
during the deepening process and a walking trail was constructed along the
north side of the pond. The pond and infrastructure is owned and maintained
by Ducks Unlimited and the project was coordinated by the Central Queens
Wildlife Federation. A pair of eagles has set up residence beside the pond
and an osprey platform has been recently constructed across the Peter's
Road near the stream. Great horned owls are also common in the area. The
pond's outflow is served by a robust concrete fish ladder that directs water
under the Peter's Road to form the complete northerly boundary to the Westwood
Hills Subdivision.
The main road serving Emyvale from Charlottetown and Cornwall is Route 235,
the Kingston Road. Route 235 is a Category C-1 Local Highway and is in good
condition. According to the Department of Public Works and Transportation
Route 235 serves an annual average of 446 vehicles per day. Emyvale is also
easily accessible from Route 1, the Trans Canada Highway, via Routes 9,
244 or 245. Crossroads to Route 225, the Kinkora Road, and to Route 2, the
Malpeque Road, are also easy to access. The Malpeque Road is the core provincial
highway which runs across the entire province from west to east. This network
of highways helps to make Emyvale a very easy community to access.
